Shani Davis (USA) returns to the ice next season as a Speed Skating Head Coach for US Speedskating, leading the distance program. He joins the coaching staff alongside returning Speed Skating Head Coach Ryan Shimabukuro.

Davis' historic Speed Skating Career

Davis is one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of speed skating. Together with Eric Heiden (USA), he is the only speed skater in history to have won the World Allround and World Sprint titles. 

A four-time Olympian, Davis is also the only man in the history of speed skating to have defended his Olympic 1000m successfully. In total he won two Olympic golds and two silvers. Davis also won two World Allround titles, one World Sprint title and eight World Single Distance Championships.

Inspiring the new generation

Following his retirement from competition after the 2018 season, Davis has been coaching and mentoring the next generation of skaters, and briefly mentored then Junior skater Jordan Stolz (USA) in 2018. The two have a special bond ever since.

“Coaching has always been about giving back and inspiring the new generation of skaters,” says Davis on the website of US Speedskating. “I look forward to working with Coach Ryan and all the US Speedskating staff as we invest in these incredible athletes. I know what it is like to be in their shoes, and I can’t wait to see what they can accomplish over the next four years and beyond."
