Plan Your Visit: What to Do in Tampere During the ISU Figure Skating World Championships 2027

Tampere, Finland, hosts the ISU Figure Skating World Championships 2027 for the very first time from 16 - 21 March 2027 and offers plenty to discover beyond the rink. From local attractions and Finnish sauna culture to shopping and restaurants, this walkable city is the perfect destination to explore on foot. Tampere can’t wait to welcome you!


Out and About in Tampere 

  • Get on the Näsinneula and/or Pyynikki Observation Tower and enjoy stunning views of the city of Tampere and its surroundings. Standing 124 meters tall, Näsinneula is the highest observation tower in the Nordic countries. Pyynikki features a cozy cafe famous for their doughnuts. 
  • Visit the only Moomin Museum in the world to meet the adorable cartoon characters.
  • Enjoy the charming atmosphere of the historic Stable Yards courtyard with its little gift shops, artisan workshops and cafés.

Heating Up and Cooling Down in Tampere

  • Experience the unique Finnish sauna culture. Tampere, nicknamed “sauna capital of the World” boasts historical, modern and traditional saunas where you can heat yourself up.
  • Get on the ice yourself skating on natural ice on Näsijärvi lake. A winter café at Siilinkari offers Finnish delicacies. 
  • Marvel at the impressive Tammerkoski Rapids in the heart of Tampere that connect two lakes.

Shop till you drop in Tampere

  • Home to inspiring vintage boutiques, the city offers a special second hand shopping experience. 
  • Finnish design is world famous and locally owned fashion boutiques and design shops are waiting to be discovered.
  • Tampere’s shopping centers are a paradise for shopping lovers, for example the newest mall Ratina (140 shops & restaurants) or Koskikeskus, a popular spot for young people.

Food & Drink in Tampere

Before or after the figure skating competition, it is time to explore the local cuisine.

  • Sample local delicacies and pastries in the beautiful Tampere Market Hall, the oldest market hall in the Nordic countries in the heart of the city. 
  • Try a vast selection of beers at Plevna, the only genuine brewery pub in Tampere in the old Finlayson cotton mills.
  • Discover Kajo, a small and atmospheric restaurant, where all dishes are inspired by nature.
  • Travel back in time in the historic Cafe Amurin Helmi that serves old-time lemonade and traditional baked goods.
