What is Synchronized Skating?

Synchronized skating is a discipline of figure skating where teams of 16 athletes perform programs in perfect unison, combining:

  • Speed and precision
  • Complex formations and transitions
  • Intricate footwork
  • Group lifts and elements

Originally known as precision skating, the discipline has evolved significantly since the 1950s and is now one of the fastest-growing formats in ice skating.

This year’s championships also feature a Synchro9 demonstration, a new competition format set to debut at the Winter Youth Olympic Games 2028 in Dolomiti Valtellina.
