ISU Championships
ISU World Speed Skating Championships®
Since 1891, the ISU World Speed Skating Championships have been the pinnacle of excellence in the sport. The championships alternate between two formats: Single Distances and Allround & Sprint.
- Single Distances Format (introduced in 1996): Held in pre- and post-Olympic years, skaters compete for 16 World titles, including Men’s 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m, Women’s 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m, Mass Start, Team Pursuit, and Team Sprint.
- Allround & Sprint Format:
- The Allround format, a cornerstone of Speed Skating tradition, has been contested by men since 1891 and women since 1936. It combines results across classical distancesto crown the most versatile skater.
- Men’s distances: 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m.
- Women’s distances: 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m.
- The Allround format, a cornerstone of Speed Skating tradition, has been contested by men since 1891 and women since 1936. It combines results across classical distancesto crown the most versatile skater.
- The Sprint format, introduced in 1970, focuses on pure speed and precision, with skaters racing the 500m and 1000m twice. The combined results from these high-octane sprints determine the Sprint Champion.
Every four years, both formats are contested in a single season (e.g., 2023, 2027), offering fans a complete showcase of speed and precision.
ISU European Speed Skating Championships®
Established in 1891 for men and 1970 for women, the ISU European Speed Skating Championships have showcased the continent's finest Skaters for well over a century, celebrating a legacy of excellence.
The event alternates between two thrilling formats: Single Distances Format (introduced in 2018) and Allround & Sprint Format.
Each race is a showcase of unmatched speed, endurance, and precision, with every competition pushing Skaters to their limits and delivering unforgettable performances.
ISU Four Continents Speed Skating Championships®
Bringing together Skaters from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania, the ISU Four Continents Speed Skating Championships are a thrilling celebration of speed, power, and precision.
Over three exhilarating days, 14 titles are fiercely contested in Single Distance races.
Since its debut in 2020, this championship has showcased intense competition and breathtaking displays of skill, leaving fans captivated with every stride.
ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships®
The ISU World Junior Speed Skating Championships is where the future of the sport takes center stage. Over three thrilling days, Skaters compete for single distance titles and Allround honors.
Since 1972 for men and 1973 for women, this event has been a proving ground for the next generation of skaters, showcasing youthful energy, impressive power, and unrelenting precision.
