INJURY
In October 2022 he required surgery on his right hip after enduring pain for several months. "Bone growth at different locations around my joint has been preventing me from cornering properly. In order to be able to skate normally, it has to be removed through keyhole surgery, which results in a long rehabilitation process. My doctor also saw a tear in the labrum, an annular ring of cartilage around the hip socket. That was caused by the abrasive effect of that bone growth. That spot can be repaired with a suture. My doctor gave me two options, quit the sport or take the surgery with a long recovery. Quitting was not an option. I am young and I still want to win more medals. Then I tried to work out what can be done from home and came up with sock colouring and selling. I'm doing all this from my apartment in Heerenveen [Netherlands]."
