In August 2017 she withdrew from the national team selection trials for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games due to concussion symptoms after she fell in training. It was the fourth concussion of her career. She stated she would ask Speed Skating Canada for a bye so that she could compete at the Games. "I know I belong at the Olympics, so I'm not worried about the fact that the decision lies in the committee's hands. One thing is for sure, I will do everything it takes to get well." RETIREMENT
She plans to retire from the sport following the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Her partner Charles Hamelin also intends to quit competitive short track skating after the Games. "It's been so many years of skating, it's hard for us to have a Christmas. We have two days at Christmas. It seems weird to say that, but when it's been 17 years that you don't celebrate Christmas, at the beginning it's OK but I'm getting older, I want some family time. It's OK to move on. I'm ready to move on," St-Gelais said. (torontosun.com, 11 Aug 2017)
