He had an operation on his left knee in February 2016. The tendon in the joint was continually rubbing against his kneecap, and the pain it caused meant he needed to take medication every day. He was unable to compete at the 2016 World Championships in Seoul, Republic of Korea, and made his comeback at the 2016 World Cup event in Calgary, AB, Canada.
