SHORT TRACK
Skater's City Guide – Dordrecht with Zoe Deltrap
25 Nov 2025
Young Dutch Lion Zoe Deltrap cannot wait to roar in front of her home fans in the up-coming Odido Cup, ISU Short Track World Tour #4. Having grown up in nearby Lage Zwaluwe, a village 20 minutes from Dordrecht, and trained at the city’s ice rink as a junior, Deltrap is a genuine local. Here she delivers a must-do, must-see guide for all those heading to one of the Netherlands’ hidden gems…
WHERE TO SPEND YOUR… ONLY AFTERNOON IN DORDRECHT
“I think I would go to the city centre first. It’s old, it is full of cute stores and you have canals. It’s a little bit like a mini-Amsterdam but many less tourists. It’s really Dutch. And then I would go to Villa AugustUs, it’s a cute café and it has a big garden where they grow their own vegetables. It’s really nice. It’s good to go to the city in the afternoon, see all the Christmas lights.”

WHERE TO EAT… LIKE A LOCAL
“Cafe Soulz is great for waffles and pancakes and of course stroopwafels (compressed pancakes with a syrup filling). They are amazing. Good coffee too. You have to eat stamppot too. It’s really Dutch. It’s mashed potatoes with vegetables and rookworst, a typical round sausage that’s delicious.”

WHERE TO WATCH... LIVE SPORT
“Come to the ice rink! It’s going to be really cool. When I was younger I used to always watch Short Track in Dordrecht. They always put on a really nice show and the atmosphere, and the people there are really fun. And it’s always fun.”
WHERE TO GO FOR… AN ADVENTURE
“De Biesbosch is a really cool, very big nature reserve. You can hire bikes, you can rent a boat or a canoe, you can hike. There’s so much nature. It’s like, 20 minutes outside the city.”

WHERE TO GO FOR…SOME CULTURE
“Maybe go to Rotterdam, it’s 20 minutes and there are lots of really good museums and galleries. Or a little bit further, go to The Hague. You have the Madurodam there. It’s a miniature town. It’s really cool, so fun (it features 430 miniature buildings – including a lot of windmills – and at least 50,000 mini-inhabitants). It’s excellent for kids. It’s a real advantage of the Netherlands that everything is so close together.”

WHERE TO GO TO… IMPRESS SOMEONE
“If you are on a date, go to Kinderdijk, it’s an area with windmills everywhere. It’s really Dutch and it’s just a 10-minute drive, maybe less, from Dordrecht. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are museums, boat tours. It’s really beautiful. Or go for a cycle. You can hire bikes anywhere in Dordrecht and the cycle lanes are really good.”

WHERE TO GO TO… PARTY
“It has to be Rotterdam. But even at the end of competition we are not going to party. Not at this stage of the season! I have never drunk alcohol, actually.”
