The delegation with the most Short Track medals at the Olympic Winter Games is the Republic of Korea. Kim Ki-Hoon (KOR) won his country’s first ever medals when he scored gold at Albertville 1992 in the 1000m and 5000m relay, both in world record times.
It triggered a love affair between Korea and Short Track that continues to this day. The nation has finished top of the Short Track medal table six times across the last nine Games – and when Russia finished top at Sochi 2014, they were led by Viktor Ahn, a Korean-born skater who had previously represented his homeland.
Korea has the most Olympic gold medals in the sport with 26, more than double that of second-placed People’s Republic of China, who have 12. Canada are third overall with 10 golds.

In terms of total medals, Korea lead with 53, while Canada and China have 37 each.
When it comes to individual titles, Arianna Fontana (ITA), main picture, leads the way. She is both the most-decorated Short Track racer, male or female, in Olympic history, and her nation’s most successful Winter Olympian. She has two golds, four silvers and five bronze medals.
Fontana won gold in the 500m at the last two Olympic Games, Beijing 2022 and PyeongChang 2018, and is aiming for a unique treble at Milano Cortina 2026, on home ice.
She will become a record breaker as soon as she steps on the ice at Milano: Fontana will clock up her sixth Olympic Games in succession. The previous record was five, held by herself and Canadian racer Charles Hamelin.

The most successful male Short Tracker is Ahn. He competed under his birth name of Ahn Hyun-soo for Korea at the Salt Lake City 2002 and Torino 2006 Olympics, before switching to Russia for the Sochi 2014 event.
He has eight medals in total, including six golds and two bronzes, making him the leading gold medallist in Short Track.
USA legend Apolo Ohno, meanwhile, also has eight – two golds, two silvers and four bronze medals.
