Kim is the first figure skater from Korea to win an ISU Championship (2006 World Junior Championships). She also is the first Korean figure skater to medal at Olympic Games (gold in 2010) and at an ISU Championship (silver at the 2005 World Junior Championships) and World Championships (bronze in 2007). In 2006, Kim has moved to Canada for training and then to the USA in summer 2010. She moved back to Korea in 2011. Kim didn't compete in the 2011/12 season but returned to competition in fall 2012.
