Zhou began skating at a friend's birthday party. He missed the 2014-15 season due to injuries and sat out most of the 2019-2020 season. Zhou qualified for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games and competed in the team event, but missed the individual event due to a positive Covid-19 test. He is of Chinese descent and speaks Mandarin.
