Steenberg began skating at age six. He kept watching a skating video from the Olympic Games while "jumping" on his living room floor, because he wanted to skate. He is half-Sicilian. He placed third in the 2004 country Spanish poetry contest and is performing trumpet/cornet solos in his school band.
