Liebers' brother Martin (three years older) competed at the international level in singles and pairs. Their father Mario is a five-time National silver medalist, competing for East Germany at European and World Championships from 1976 to 1980. Liebers married Denise Zimmermann, a former international figure skating competitor, in June 2014. Their son Emil was born in May 2015.
