Yu/Jin teamed up in 2009. Yu had taken up skating after discovering it at a shopping mall ice rink. Jin wanted to try skating after watching Xue Shen/Hongbo Zhao on TV in 1999. He looks up to Olympic Champions Shen/Zhao and felt inspired by their Olympic performances. The couple is coached by Zhao since the 2013/14 season.
