Coomes/Buckland teamed up in 2005. Buckland's brother Joseph (three years younger) is an ice dancer as well and was ranked 10th at the 2014 World Junior Championships with his partner Olivia Smart. Coomes' stepfather Phiipp Askew was National Ice Dance Champion and is part of their coaching/choreographer team. The couple withdrew from the 2015 European Championships and the 2015 World Championships due to illness. The couple missed most of the 2016/17 season as Coomes recovered from a knee injury.
