Stolbova/Klimov won the gold medal with team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. They teamed up in spring 2009. Stolbova wanted to start skating after watching it and Klimov's mother is a figure skating coach. Klimov is an avid fan of the football club Zenit St. Petersburg. The couple switched coaches following the 2012/13 season and has moved to Moscow. They missed the 2016 National Championships and European Championships as he was injured. They also missed the first half of the 2016/17 season as she recovered from injury. Coach Vladislav Zhovnirski is the 1996 World Junior Champion in Pair skating.
