Wirtz/Wirtz got married in May 1999. They have two daughters, Tristan, born in 1993 and Brianna, born in May 2002. The couple retired from competition last season but decided to come back after the baby was born. They went back to long-time coach Paul Wirtz (Kris' brother) after being coached by Marina Zueva in the 2000/2001 season. Kristy Wirtz's sister Lisa Sargeant was the 1990 Canadian Ladies' Champion.
