Samuelson/Gilles teamed up in summer 2011. Samuelson is the 2008 World Junior Champion (with former partner Evan Bates). She started skating at age 5 after seeing a girl skating while she was on vacation in Switzerland and wanting to try it, too. Gilles' younger sister Piper and Alexe are competitive skaters as well. Piper is an ice dancer and presently skates with Paul Poirier (CAN) while Alexe is a single skater.
