Denney/Barrett teamed up in May 2008. They had skated together before for four months in 2006, but then Denney wanted to focus on single skating and the couple split up. Barrett didn't find a new partner until Denney came back. She was a competitive roller skater and won at age 9 the juvenile National Roller Skating titles and was also an Elementary Pairs National Roller Champion. Denney's younger sister Haven is competing in pairs at the national novice level. Barrett is working as a coach, zamboni driver, snack bar attendant, personal trainer at the ice rink to support his skating. He won the U.S. Junior Pairs title in 2004 with Shantal Jordan. Coach John Zimmerman is the 2002 World Pairs bronze medallist (with Kyoko Ina) and coach Silvia Fonanta is a National Champion of Italy and competed at the Olympic level.
