Ge grew up in China as his parents were coaching there. He has been coached by his parents since childhood. Ge lived and trained in the USA for a few years, and since 2013 has been splitting his training between China, the USA and Russia. He speaks fluently Chinese (Mandarin), Russian and English. Ge has choreographed programs for fellow skaters such as Elizabet Tursynbaeva (KAZ), Sergei Voronov (RUS) and Anna Pogorilaya (RUS).
