Yee was also a member of the National short track team, but now focuses on figure skating. Yee is the first figure skater to represent Malaysia and ISU World Championships (in 2016). He is also the first Malaysian figure skater to compete at the Olympic Winter Games (2018). His brother Ryan Zhi Jwen (two years older) competed in figure skating at the international level as well.
