Malinin is an Olympic Champion in the Team Event at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Malinin is the first (and so far only) skater to have successfully performed a quadruple Axel in competition (2022 U.S. Figure Skating Classic) and seven quads in one program (GP Final 2025). He is coached by his parents, who were competitive figure skaters, representing Uzbekistan. His mother Tatiana is the 1999 ISU Four Continents and Grand Prix Final Champion. His younger sister Elli Beatrice is a figure skater as well. Malinin received the ISU Skating Award "Special Achievement" in 2023 for landing the quad Axel and the ISU Skating Award 2024 in the category "Most Valuable Skater". He won the ISU Figure Skating Awards 2025 in the categories "Most Entertaining Program" (SP) and "Skater of the Year".
