Kawamura began skating at age 4 because her parents thought it would be good exercise and balance training for little kids. Her mother was a professional motorboat racer in Japan. Skaters Kawamura looks up to are 1992 Olympic Champion Kristi Yamaguchi and five-time World Champion Michelle Kwan.
