Oi began skating at age six after watching skating on TV. His younger sister Bryna earned a bronze medal at the national intermediate level in skating. His younger brother Aidan plays soccer and swims. Oi admires tennis player Roger Federer's drive and dominance. Coaches Johansson (a National Champion in Sweden) and Mitchell (a National medalist in the USA) both competed at the World level.
