Liang began skating at age 6 when she followed her older sister, Nathalie, to skating lessons after watching the 1994 Olympic Winter Games. At the time she was also a gymnast, but chose skating two years later when combining the schedules became too demanding. Liang is active in classical piano competitions and has won numerous piano awards. She teaches piano lessons part time.
