Parekh is the first skater to represent India in an ISU Championship (2007 Four Continents Championships). She was born and raised in the USA but has lived one year in her ancestral home country India. Parekh's brother Amar Mehta (two years younger) is also a figure skater and competed at the 2007 World Junior Championships. Parekh didn't compete internationally from 2008 until 2012.
