Leonova started to skate at age four when her mother read an announcement about figure skating classes. Her younger brother and sister also skated, but meanwhile retired from the sport. Leonova's idol in skating is two-time World Champion Irina Slutskaya (RUS). Leonova switched coaches in spring 2014.
