Kihira has landed the quad Salchow and triple Axels in competition and is the first woman to land a triple Axel-triple toeloop combination in competition (at the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December 2017). She has relocated to Canada for training in 2021. She missed the 2021/22 season due to injury. Coach Brian Orser is the 1984 and 1988 Olympic silver medalist, representing Canada.
