They keep coming back: Multiple Olympians in Figure Skating in Milan

02 Feb 2026

Every athlete dreams of competing in the Olympic Games but only the very best achieve it. So it’s even more impressive to get to the Games two, three or even more times. And there are plenty of multiple Olympians in Figure Skating at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

The record holder when it comes to Olympic Figure Skating appearances in Milan is US Ice Dancer Evan Bates with five - that means he has been competing at the highest level for an incredible 16 years. Some of the skaters at these Games were making their first steps onto the ice when Bates competed at the Vancouver Games of 2010 with his previous partner Emily Samuelson. Bates’ partner and wife Madison Chock (USA) is now a four-time Olympian, having danced with him on Olympic ice in 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026.

Fellow Ice Dancer Paul Poirier (CAN) was also in Vancouver with former partner Vanessa Crone. He missed out in 2014 but returned to skate in the Olympics in 2018 and 2022 with Piper Gilles. Milan marks Poirier’s fourth Games and Gilles’ third.

Also hitting the ice in their fourth Olympic Winter Games are Charlene Guignard & Marco Fabbri of Italy, who get to experience the Games not only in their home country but also in their home city of Milan. They have been training for many years in the practice rink of the Milano Ice Arena (used for Short Track Speed Skating during these Games).

Another four-time Olympian is Pair Skater Ryuichi Kihara (JPN). In 2014 he competed with Narumi Takahashi and in 2018 with Miyu Suzaki. Both times they did not make the Final but he was back in 2022 with Riku Miura to take silver with the Team and finish seventh in the individual event. In his fourth Olympic Winter Games, Kihara, together with Miura, will challenge for gold.
