Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps (CAN) soar to sixth ISU Grand Prix gold at Skate Canada

02 Nov 2025

2024 ISU World Champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek/Maxime Deschamps (CAN) soared to their sixth ISU Grand Prix victory as Skate Canada International continued in Saskatoon (CAN) on Saturday.

Deanna Stellato-Dudek/Maxime Deschamps (CAN) make home crowd proud

Canada’s Deanna Stellato-Dudek/Maxime Deschamps made their home crowd proud by soaring to gold at the SaskTel Centre. 2025 ISU European Champions Minerva Hase/Nikita Volodin of Germany settled for the silver medal, while Ellie Kam/Danny O’Shea (USA) came from fourth place to claim the bronze.

Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps sparkled in their characteristic Flamenco routine. When they hit their triple twist and triple toe-double Axel-double toe combination, the crowd went wild. The 2025 ISU Four Continents silver medallists produced a throw triple loop and Salchow as well as a rarely seen forward outside death spiral. However, they doubled the side by side Salchow and the last lift received only the base value. Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps achieved a seasons best of 140.37 points in the Free Skating and 213.40 points overall to move up from second place and claim their sixth ISU Grand Prix title.

“We've been to Skate Canada before, and we've won Skate Canada before, but this one, it holds so much weight being on the big year,” an emotional Stellato-Dudek said. “We're just really proud that we can have this victory before a home crowd.”

“We have been practicing so well at home and even in every competition practice we've been doing, but when we're going out there, we are always doing mistakes, silly mistakes, everything that we don't do,” Deschamps commented. “So to be able to put a strong performance, not perfect, but still a great performance, feels really good.”

With gold and silver from their two events, Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps are the first Pair to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix Final.

“I remember watching the 2017 Grand Prix Final before the 2018 Olympics and it was also in Japan,” Stellato-Dudek noted. “I thought I would love that it was me going to the final in Japan, so we're very excited, very pleased that we were able to make it. We still had some errors here, our score can grow further and we hope to be able to show our best at that event.”

Hase/Volodin opened their intriguing program to music by Max Richter with a beautiful triple twist but then Volodin slipped and fell on the triple toeloop. The whole jump combination was gone. The Germans rallied back to complete a throw triple loop and excellent lifts but Hase missed the throw triple flip. With a score of 129.65, the 2025 ISU World silver medallists ranked third in the Free Skating segment but overall came second at 207.18 points.

“We're not quite happy with the performance, there were two big mistakes, but the rest of the elements, besides the mistakes, we were really happy with,” Hase shared. “We could show what we have worked on, which was conditioning. We skated full power till the end, and I had the feeling that we did better compared to the competitions before, so that's a plus. We have a lot of room to grow and we will go back home and have two weeks to train before Finland to get there.”

Hase/Volodin got 13 points from Skate Canada and will compete again at the  ISU Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy in Helsinki trying to return to the ISU Grand Prix Final that they have won twice.

Performing to “Sweet Dreams” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”, Kam/O’Shea produced a triple twist, triple toe, throw triple loop and strong lifts to pick up a new personal best of 133.63 points. With a total of 199.11 points, the 2024 2024 ISU Grand Prix Finalists pulled up one spot to take the bronze.

“We were very happy with the program today,” O’Shea said. “It was a tough off season for us. Three months off the ice for myself and a month off for Ellie for random injuries and surgeries. We see ourselves in a good path as we continue to grow with each competition and with each step forward. We're happy to be able to perform the way we did today and put that out there. I'm excited to keep the improvement going.”
