ISU mourns passing of Julia Marie Gaiser

18 Sep 2025

The International Skating Union (ISU) mourns the death of Julia Marie Gaiser, a cherished member of the Italian and Austrian figure skating communities, whose life was tragically cut short in a cycling accident on September 11, 2025, while she was on her way home from practice in Salzburg. She was just 23 years old.

Born in Brixen, in Italy’s South Tyrol region, Gaiser discovered her passion for skating at a young age. With talent, determination, and joy, she made her mark on the ice – becoming a three-time Salzburg state champion and a regular competitor at the Austrian national championships. Her performances reflected not only her skill but also her passion and radiant spirit.

Julia was more than a competitor – she was a shining presence in the skating community, remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the inspiration she gave to younger skaters. Her laughter and dedication touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The ISU extends its heartfelt sympathies to Gaiser’s family, her partner, friends, and to everyone in the Italian and Austrian skating communities whose lives she brightened. Her loss leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit and love for the sport will always be remembered.
