Helsinki becomes a figure skating hotspot this week when World and Olympic medalists are vying for the last spots for the ISU Grand Prix Final at the ISU Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy. The field is stacked and the stakes are high for 2022 Olympic silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama (JPN), ISU Grand Prix Final Champion Amber Glenn (USA), ISU World silver medalists Minerva Hase/Nikita Volodin (GER) and Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier (CAN) as Finlandia Trophy is the sixth and last event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series 2025/26 …
The top contenders in Helsinki
Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) to face Adam Siao Him Fa (FRA)

- With a victory from NHK Trophy under his belt, multiple ISU World medalist Yuma Kagiyama (JPN) has a good shot to qualify for the Final in his home country
- Two-time ISU European Champion Adam Siao Him Fa (FRA) is looking to get into the Final as well after claiming silver at the ISU Grand Prix de France.
- The popular Jason Brown (USA) comes off a fourth-place finish from Saatva Skate America and hopes to improve on that in Helsinki
- Other contenders include multiple ISU European medalist Matteo Rizzo (ITA), Deniss Vasiljevs (LAT) and Sota Yamamoto (JPN)

- The challenge should come from reigning ISU World bronze medalist Mone Chiba (JPN) who comes with a gold medal from the ISU Grand Prix Skate Canada International
- 2024 ISU European Champion Loena Hendrickx (BEL) and Rion Sumiyoshi (JPN) both got a bronze from their first event and have a shot at making the Final as well
- Others to watch include Rino Matsuike (JPN), Lorine Schild (FRA) and Bradie Tennell (USA)

- Two-time and reigning ISU Grand Prix Final Champions Minerva Hase/Nikita Volodin (GER) lead the Pairs and are aiming at qualifying for the Final again. The ISU World silver medalists got a silver from their first event Skate Canada
- ISU Grand Prix Finalists Ellie Kam/Danny O’Shea (USA) got the bronze in Canada and have set their eyes on the podium, hoping to qualify for the Final again
- Lia Pereira/Trennt Michaud (CAN) hope to improve from their fourth place finish at Skate Canada International
- Yuna Nagaoka/Sumitada Moriguchi (JPN) are hungry for their first ISU Grand Prix medal after coming close at NHK Trophy
- Other contenders include Alisa Efimova/Misha Mitrofanov (USA), Rebecca Ghilardi/Filippo Ambrosini (ITA) and Jiaxuan Zhang/Yihang Huang (CHN)

- Multiple ISU World medalists Piper Gilles/Paul Poirier (CAN) are headed with a gold from Skate Canada International to Helsinki and are aiming at their sixth ISU Grand Prix Final
- Competition for the top spot will be tough with the new team of Laurence Fournier Beaudry/Guillaume Cizeron (FRA) who stunned the Ice Dance world with their victory at the Grand Prix de France and have a good shot at making the Final in their first season as a team
- Emilea Zingas/Vadym Kolesnik (USA) celebrated a breakthrough at the Cup of China with the silver medal and are eager for more success
- 2018 Olympic bronze medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani (USA) continue their comeback after a break of seven years
- Other to watch include Olivia Smart/Tim Dieck (ESP), Diana Davis/Gleb Smolkin (GEO) and Natalie Taschlerova/Filip Taschler (CZE)
