Highland fling hits the high notes as Fear/Gibson dance into ISU Grand Prix Final

08 Nov 2025

Lilah Fear/Lewis Gibson (GBR) danced off with their fourth ISU Grand Prix title and straight into the Final at the ISU Grand Prix NHK Trophy in Osaka (JPN) Saturday. The NHK Trophy is the fourth stop of six for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series 2025/26.

Fear/Gibson strike gold again in Japan

2025 ISU World bronze medalists Fear/Lewis danced off with gold in style and with seven points to spare. Three-time ISU European Champions Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri of Italy earned the silver medal while 2022 ISU Four Continents Champions Caroline Green/Michael Parsons (USA) took the bronze.

The British pair entertained the Japanese crowd with their Scottish dance in tartan costumes that featured spectacular lifts and fast paced footwork. The 2024 ISU Grand Prix Final bronze medalists picked up a level four for their lifts, twizzles and the dance spin to score 124.31 points. Overall they accumulated 205.88 points.

“Lewis and I had an absolute blast out there in Japan, as always,” Fear said.

“We're just very proud of our performances because we put a lot of work in a short amount of time between France and here, and it really showed up in competition, which is one of the most gratifying feelings,” she added.

Gibson agreed: “We're both very proud of the competitions that we've had so far this season.

“Just being able to feel more like it's our training that's in the competition has been such a big step up for us this season and something that we definitely look to build upon for the rest of the season.

“Both [Grand Prix] locations are also fantastic and such a joy to compete in.”

Guignard/Fabbri delivered an emotional and smooth dance to the “Diamanti” soundtrack, completing level-four twizzles and lifts to post a season’s best of 122.31 points. With a total score of 198.67 points, they remained in second place.

“Since we decided to start the season a little bit later, we are quite happy with the performances we had in both our Grand Prix,” Fabbri noted.

“We know that's just the beginning of the season for us. So the programs still have a lot of margin for improvement, but we got some feedback from these two competitions and we will work on the feedback we got,” he continued.

“We are very happy that the competition is ending because every day I feel worse for my physical condition,” Guignard shared, who was injured in a collision in practice on Thursday.

Today was very hard, but we felt good on the ice, we skated well and we are happy with the way we performed and the way we ended this competition.”

Green/Parsons gave a season’s best performance of their dance to “Escalate” band “Son of Nyx”, collecting a level four for three elements. The American couple netted 112.76 points for a total of 187.90 points.

“I think it's safe to say that Michael and I have learned a lot in these past three weeks that we've been away here in Asia,” Green commented.

“To go from one of the most difficult experiences of our careers, having to withdraw from the free in China to having the skates that we did here at NHK has just been really rewarding.

“We came into this competition with a lot of gratitude for being able to come back and get that out there and just really soak in this experience.”

Natalie Taschlerova/Filip Taschler (CZE) placed fourth with their “Matrix” program on 183.33 points, ahead of 2025 ISU World Junior silver medalists Katarina Wolfkostin/Dmitry Tsarevski (USA) on 182.85 points.

2018 Olympic bronze medalists Maia Shibutani/Alex Shibutani (USA) finished sixth in their first competition after a break of seven years (180.50 points).
