The Olympic Winter Games is a major international sporting event that occurs once every four years. The first Olympic Winter Games took place in 1924 in Chamonix (FRA).

Figure Skating and Speed Skating were part of the original five Olympic Winter sports although Figure Skating also featured in the 1908 Olympic Games (summer) in London (GBR).

The Olympic Winter Games have evolved since its inception. Sports and disciplines have been added, including Short Track Speed Skating (in 1992) which has earned a permanent spot on the Olympic program.
